Neeraj Bhatyal is a technology leader and data architect with twenty years of experience designing, building, and operating enterprise-scale data, cloud, and analytics platforms. He is an Enterprise Data Architect at Hitachi Digital Services, where he leads enterprise data architecture, data governance, data lineage, and SOC 2 Type II readiness initiatives. Before that, from 2017 to 2026, he was a Vice President at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York, where he led the architecture, strategy, and implementation of large-scale big data and cloud data platforms.
His work there spanned the full arc of modern enterprise data architecture described in this book. He designed an enterprise data lake and reusable ingestion frameworks for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data; built a Databricks lakehouse that integrates marketing, campaign, survey, billing, and operational data from more than fifty sources across more than one hundred production pipelines; and defined architecture standards, engineering practices, and modernization roadmaps for enterprise data platforms. He also led cloud cost-optimization work that combined platform telemetry, AWS CloudWatch, and Databricks system tables to eliminate unnecessary compute spend, and evaluated and built proofs of concept for generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, and AI agents.
Before joining JPMorgan Chase, Neeraj led big data consulting and solution delivery at Selsoft, where he migrated enterprise pipelines from Greenplum to Spark and built a metadata-driven ingestion framework. Earlier in his career he designed a network intelligence platform at Torres Networks and held engineering and consulting roles at Cognizant, CSG International, Amdocs, and KPIT Technologies, working on telecommunications, billing, policy and charging, enterprise integration, and manufacturing systems. That breadth — from operational systems and integration to analytics platforms and AI — shapes the book’s conviction that data architecture is ultimately about how an enterprise understands itself.
Neeraj’s technical expertise includes AWS, Databricks, Apache Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Python, Java, Kubernetes, MLOps, and modern generative AI tooling.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from the Government College of Engineering and Technology, University of Jammu, India.
